Romeo & Juliet
February 11 & 13 at 8:00 PM and February 14, 2010 at 2:00 PM
Wortham Theater Center, Cullen Theater, 501 Texas Avenue, Houston, Texas

Dominic Walsh Dance Theater and Mercury Baroque will once again team up for the ultimate performing arts mash up—Romeo & Juliet. This beloved opera-ballet brings Shakespeare’s star-crossed lovers to life like never before, with Walsh's contemporary choreography set to a Vivaldi score arranged by Antoine Plante and performed live on period instruments by Mercury Baroque and the Bach Choir of Houston.

While dancers take the lead roles, Paris and Friar Laurence are portrayed by actors, and Lord Capulet and the Nurse are portrayed by opera singers – with all delivering Shakespeare’s text at pivotal moments. Adding to the wow factor of this production are the chic costumes designed by award-winning designer Fabio Toblini; award-winning designer Jorge Ballina’s architectural frame and scrim set that morphs throughout the ballet; and lighting by Robert Eubanks.

Forget the expensive roses and chocolates this Valentine’s Day and instead, catch this triumphant union of contemporary ballet, Baroque music, opera, and theater. Bring your date, bring your friends, or just bring yourself!

Tickets for Romeo & Juliet are on sale for $21.75, $34.25, $47, $75 through HYPERLINK "http://www.dwdt.org" www.dwdt.org, www.mercurybaroque.org, or by calling 832-251-0706.
